The Department of Life Sciences is a multidisciplinary academic unit dedicated to excellence in education, research, and innovation. It encompasses seven major sub-disciplines: Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biopharmaceuticals, and Biofarming, addressing critical aspects of contemporary life science research and applications.
The department offers an integrated curriculum combining strong theoretical foundations with extensive laboratory and computational training, enabling students to understand biological systems from molecular to ecosystem levels. Strong collaborations with research-driven industries, biotechnology firms, and pharmaceutical companies facilitate internships, industrial training, collaborative research, and expert interactions. Supported by well-equipped laboratories, modern instrumentation, and experienced faculty engaged in cutting-edge research, the department emphasises skill development, ethical scientific practices, innovation, and interdisciplinary learning. The 2nd International Conference on Advances in Medical Microbiology (PUICAMM–II) is highly relevant in the current global scenario marked by emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, increasing antimicrobial resistance, and the growing demand for rapid and accurate diagnostics. Medical microbiology represents a critical thrust area for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, vaccine manufacturing, and public health sectors. The conference aims to create a vital interface between academia, clinicians, industry experts, and policymakers, facilitating the translation of laboratory research into clinically and commercially viable solutions.
The programme also supports capacity building by exposing students and early-career researchers to industry trends, regulatory standards, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and translational research opportunities, thereby enhancing employability and research readiness.
